Predestination

Calvin writes, in The Institutes of the Christian Religion (III, XXI, 5): “We call predestination the eternal resolution of God by which he has determined what he would do with each human being. He does not create them all in an identical condition, but he appoints some to eternal life and others to eternal damnation. Thus, according to the purpose for which man is created, we say that he is predestined for death or for life.”
