Martin Bucer preached here after 1523. He was born in Selestat, was the father of the Reformation in Strasbourg, organised the local church, and published about five hundred works. He introduced Protestant confirmation and tried to reconcile different Evangelical trends.

He taught at the High School in Strasbourg, and had some impact on Jean Calvin. The present Church was erected on the place of a Medieval building whose tower can still be seen.

The big hall with a gallery, but without a choir, suitable for worshipping and preaching, was erected between1763 and 1765. The organ, one of the first designed by André Silberman in Alsace (1718), was refurbished in the Saxony style, Silberman’s original country.
