Religion is an important factor in the make-up of a country’s national and cultural identity. The Reformation was a major European event which largely contributed to the building-up of individual Nation-States. It was at the origin of a new kind of European “religious geography”: Protestantism became largely dominant in the North, Catholicism in the South and orthodoxy in the East. |
